Marie Kondo is a Japanese organising consultant and author. She has written four books on organising that have sold millions of copies, and recently featured in her own Netflix show entitled ‘tidying up with Marie Kondo’.

But what does Marie Kondo have to do with social media marketing?

Well, bear with us here. Marie Kondo’s attitude towards tidying and organising is not only about practicality but also about mindset and attitude. There is so much wisdom in Marie Kondo’s method that it can pretty much be applied to anything, including social media marketing.

The message here is that creating or re-vamping a social media strategy should not be done just for the sake of having a refresh. You should be aiming to create a social media strategy that makes you feel proud and will be genuinely enjoyable for your audience and target market.

“Human beings can only truly cherish a limited number of things at a time”

A good social media strategy does not need to include everything you can possibly think of. If you have limited time then it’s more than fine to pick out the essentials and work with those. Perhaps your target market spends the majority of their time on Instagram. If so, make Instagram your priority and expand to other social media channels at a later date. Concentrate on doing one or two things amazingly instead of hundreds of things at an okay level.
